The Challenge

Scaling up semiconductor cleaning fluid production is not simply a matter of buying more machines. Three interlinked problems had to be solved first:


Contamination at the wetted path. Standard filling machines use materials that are incompatible with the purity requirements of wafer-process chemicals. Any particle or cross-contamination at the fill point puts downstream semiconductor processes at risk.

Inconsistent fill weights across a wide bottle range. The product is filled into bottles of multiple sizes. Without a precision metering system, net-weight variation leads to rework and compliance failures.

Manual inter-station handling created bottlenecks. Storage, filling, capping, inspection, and packaging were physically disconnected. Operators carried product between stations by hand — slowing throughput and multiplying contamination touchpoints.


Our Solution

We designed the complete line around the customer's throughput target and purity specification, treating each machine as part of a single integrated system.


Contamination-controlled filling. A flow meter filling machine with full 304 stainless steel product contact and food-grade flexible hose connections was selected. PLC-controlled door-open interlocks prevent the machine from running with panels open, eliminating particulate ingress. ±0.5% fill accuracy is maintained across the full 1–5 L range with no mechanical changeover between formats.

Continuous, fully automated conveying. A 1,000 L SUS316 buffer tank with auto-replenishment feeds the filler without operator intervention. A chain and roller conveyor system driven by Jinlong motors with Danfoss VFDs links every station — eliminating manual handling between filling, capping, inspection, and packaging.

100% inline quality control. A vision inspection machine using dual Basler industrial cameras checks every bottle for cap tightness, missing caps, and liquid level — non-conforming bottles are rejected automatically. A downstream checkweigher confirms that every packed case contains the correct number of bottles before palletizing.

End-to-end packaging integration. An automatic box opener, case packer, box sealer, and palletizer close the line — from corrugated blank to pallet-stacked carton — without manual intervention.

Results

Line throughput reached the design target of 1,500 bottles/hour — achieved through integrated layout that eliminated all manual inter-station transfers.

Fill accuracy held at ±0.5% across the full bottle range, eliminating net-weight rework.

Zero contamination incidents recorded at the wetted path — 304 SS construction and PLC interlocks met semiconductor-grade cleanliness requirements.

Operator headcount per shift reduced as vision inspection and automated rejection replaced manual quality checks at capping and filling stations.

Q1: What materials are used in the product-wetted path?

All surfaces in direct contact with the fluid are 304 stainless steel or food-grade P-standard flexible hose. The buffer tank is full SUS316 with a rotary ball CIP system. These choices meet the cleanliness standard required for semiconductor-grade chemical dispensing.


Q2: Can the line accommodate multiple bottle sizes without changeover?

Yes. The flow meter filler handles bottles from Φ40 to Φ160 mm in diameter and fills from 1 to 5 L — all within the same configuration. Fill parameters are adjusted via PLC; no mechanical changeover is required within this range.


Q3: How is throughput adjusted after installation?

The entire conveyor network uses Danfoss variable-frequency drives, allowing line speed to be tuned from a central control point without any mechanical changes. The filling and capping machines are both rated to ≤1,500 BPH, giving headroom to run at lower speeds during ramp-up or format transitions.
